- M.G.L. Ch 140 § 131L – Safe storage law. Firearms must be stored unloaded in a locked container (as defined in §121) or with a tamper-resistant mechanical lock when not under the direct control of the owner, especially to prevent access by minors or unauthorized persons.

Ch 140 § 121 – Defines ''Secured in a locked container'', secured in a container that is capable of being unlocked only by means of a key, combination or similar means, including in an unoccupied motor vehicle, a locked trunk not accessible from the passenger compartment, a locked console or locked glovebox and for purposes of a common carrier in the course of the regular and ordinary transport of firearms, locked access to any area containing firearms.

Prohibited Places
